In the noble houses of Kalria, the sons and daughters are expected to become the perfect sirs and ladies their parents want them to be. Image, after all, is the most important thing to maintain in front of the rest of the houses. And, as expected, Maura did exactly as her parents asked. She grew up and did everything her parents wanted her to, studied like her parents wanted her to, attended parties like her parents wanted her to, and to her parents, she could've won a trophy for being the perfect young noble lady, sweet, charming and gentle, just like she wanted them to believe. But as soon as Maura feels her parents' eyes leaving her, she is another person completely. She's ruined an infinite number of dresses ("I believe it caught on a rosebush as I was walking serenly through the gardens, mother."), run around barefoot ("Whatever do you mean, father? I merely forgot my shoes in my rush to help the poor bird.") and shamelessly flirt and hint to any man she happens to fancy. But it was only when she turned 17 that one of the men she'd flirt with guided her to a bedroom and she lost her virginity. She knew her parents wouldn't approve, she knew her parents wouldn't like this at all if they found out, but this was an entire new world that had opened up to her and she wasn't about to give it up. And she grew older and prettier, she was pushed by her parents to attend more parties, make more friends, be the perfect lady they wanted her to be. She has made countless friends, found numerous suitors and exceeded her parents' expectations, but still, she continues to live her life like she is still 17, leaving everything to work out without her caring about it. |
A gentle, sweet lady with every reason to be happy and loved by her large groups of friends and many suitors. Caring, charming, serene and the one who every girl wants to be. (Lady Maura, as her parents see her.) A wild, daring girl, willing to try everything new and not hide her feelings. Will say whatever she pleases, without a second thought to how everyone else feels. Attractive and a social butterfly. (Lady Maura, as the rest of the world sees her.) A lonely, tired, frustrated child. She can't say what she really thinks, she goes to guy after guy, trying to find a solution for her unexplainable loneliness. Cares less about what her parents and everyone else thinks, but finds herself unable to shatter their images of her. Wishes her parents would find out about her other personality, but doesn't at the same time. Would rather find someone she can actually talk to, someone who would be able to tell her why she feels this way when she's got all she wants. (Maura, as she sees herself.) Maura doesn't understand how she can be unsatsified with her world, with the things she's got, but even still, she finds herself lonely and can't really call any of her 'friends' a true friend. She can't imagine herself telling any of them what she really feels, telling them her secrets, she can only see herself laughing about this sir who had proposed to Lady Anne or that maid of Sir Rodney's who wouldn't leave Lady Caroline's young, handsome son alone. She's got what everybody else wants, but still, she asks herself, what about me? |
She hates wearing dresses, she sits like a proper lady even when her parents aren't looking, she is usually tidy and keeps her shoulder-length brown hair untied, to show its beauty. Or something. |
